Overview
Purpose and Objective
FEWS NET’s Nutrition Team is responsible for developing an in-depth nutrition knowledge base and fully integrating nutritional information into FEWS NET’s early warning and food security analysis. The team’s main objectives include the following:
Build internal capacity
Build the nutrition knowledge base
Conduct rapid nutrition assessments when needed
Improve understanding of the causes of acute and chronic undernutrition
Contribute to global food security and nutrition protocols and initiatives
Sector staff
Over the course of FEWS NET III (2012-2019), the team has staffed the following positions:
Nutrition Advisor/Coordinator (team lead)
Regional Nutrition Specialist, East Africa
Regional Nutrition Specialist, West Africa
Nutrition Officer, Afghanistan
Nutrition Officer, Nigeria
Product documentation
Regional Nutrition Monitors: This is the only regular product developed by the the Nutrition sector, and is currently only internal and in a pilot stage pending USAID approval.
Training documentation
FEWS NET Nutrition Foundational Training: The main training organized by the Nutrition sector is the FEWS NET Nutrition Foundational Training, typically a 5-6 hour training for all new technical staff. For an overview of the Foundational Training, see:

FEWS NET Integrating Acute Malnutrition and Mortality into Scenario Development Training: This training on the process and approach used by FEWS NET to integrate acute malnutrition and mortality into scenario development can only be given to participants who have received FEWS NET’s Nutrition Foundational Training.
