FEWS NET Health Threat Extension Pilot Activity
Project Background
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and local partners, is working with USAID Missions in Somalia and Mozambique on a pilot activity to expand FEWS NET capabilities to track climate-sensitive health threats of cross-sectoral concern.
The FEWS NET Health Threat Extension (HTE) pilot will be delivered through the Integrated Natural Resource Management activity and will harness social, epidemiological, climatological, and biodiversity-related data to provide early warning of disease emergence and spread.
Participating Organizations
Groups participating in this pilot activity include:
FEWS NET/Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA)
USAID Africa Bureau
USAID Bureau for Development, Democracy, and Innovation (DDI)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
United States Geological Survey (USGS)
The Somalia and Mozambique HTE activity embodies One Health, a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach that explores the ways in which human health is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment.
